Social Networking

Is social networking a good idea? Kids spend a lot of their time on these sites, we need to decide if it is a good idea or not.

1. Are kids being bullied on social networking sites or is that just being blown out of proportion by the media?

2. Are social networking sites educational or are they just for socializing?

3.Do kids have the access to sites that we think they do or are they actually hard to get to?

I was surprised to read that only 1 in 14 students had experienced cyberbullying

3 in 4 parents think that social networking sites could actually improve their students educational and conflict resolution skills

“Only .08% of all students say they’ve actually met someone in person from an online encounter without their parents’ permission.

96% of students with online access have used social networking technologies. 71% have done it in the last 7 days.

Using this information I believe that the media has made social networking look bad when it is actually a tool that can be used for what you choose. Many good things can come from social networking and we should all attempt to use it with caution.
